Filevine Celebrates Grand Opening

Filevine assembled over 300 people to celebrate the grand opening of its newest office space in the hip Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City. A packed room consisting of employees, partners, board members, and city councilmen attended the event.

Filevine is a privately-held, venture-backed SaaS company based in central Salt Lake City offering legal case and contract management software, which includes a variety of tools such as text-to-case file, threaded tasks, auto-tagging and a many different types of reports.  The company's software offers project management tools and gives security, speed, and reliability, and also assign tasks, upload files, monitor staff productivity, and communicate with their client directly from within their case file, enabling law firms to collaborate on case files with their team and communicate with clients. In 2023, the company embraced AI, a potentially treacherous undertaking for a legal tech company given embarrassing initial experiences with AI by some law firms.

Filevine's Head Legal Futurist (and Utah AI 100 honoree), Dr. Cain Elliott, shared with TechBuzz that Filevine is threading the legal AI needle carefully. Accuracy is paramount. Using Filevine's AI features, legal professionals can upload lengthy documents and automatically extract and organize critical information from a customer's project documents and other files. The technology can scan handwritten notes and text within digital images using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The extracted information can be used independently, pulled into reports, or leveraged in the creation of demand letters and other document generation. Elliott is confident that Filevine's use of AI is thoughtful and responsible, with an emphasis on reliability and accuracy. Filevine's Co-founder and CEO, Ryan Anderson, underscored the need for accuracy in deploying AI features into any SaaS platform in his address to the audience.

Founded in 2015, Filevine now has approximately 400 employees who service over 65,000 licensed users each of which uses the Filevine platform to manage legal documentation of hundreds or thousands of clients. The company is growing rapidly. Filevine users add over 10,000 new clients into the platform on a daily basis. The company expects to exceed $1 billion in revenue shortly—on track to perhaps become the next Utah unicorn.

The move into the brand new office building represents a big step for the company. For the past three years, Filevine occupied office space in the same Sugar House neighborhood, 1242 Wilmington Ave. Its new location, on the sixth floor of 1260 Stringham Avenue, next to the new University of Utah /Sugar House Health Center. Perched on the 6th floor, the new location offers provides excellent views of the Salt Lake Valley to the south and Sugar House park to the northeast. It is located in the vibrant, newly revitalized Sugar House neighborhood teeming with hipster shops, bookstores, restaurants and movies.

The Utah Jazz Bear & Dancers were on hand at the event, recognizing Filevine's recent partnership with the Utah Jazz. Gourmandise tastefully catered the celebration.

Sean Dowdle, the company's new Chief Revenue Officer, did the honors of cutting the red ribbon to a cheering audience.

Ryan Anderson explained why it is important for the company to be located close to downtown Salt Lake City, instead of Silicon Slopes locations in Draper, Sandy or Lehi that are popular with Utah software companies: "It is important for us to be close to where are clients are," said Anderson. Many of Filevine's clients consist of legal offices of state and municipal government.

Filevine's next big company event will be its annual user conference, LEX Summit, at the new Hyatt Regency in downtown Salt Lake City on Sept 8-10, 2024.
